Background

The client operates sensitive offshore assets and maritime operations in multiple regions and relies on accurate,
timely intelligence to mitigate security, reputational, and operational risks. NSSG was engaged to deliver
weekly security intelligence reporting, covering the client’s designated offshore locations of interest, with a
strong focus on open-source intelligence (OSINT), maritime risk indicators, and emerging threats.

During routine monitoring, NSSG analysts identified a social media user exhibiting intense posting activity
across three separate social media platforms, publishing daily content that included photos, videos, and short-
form reels. Several of these posts openly tagged the location of the client’s offshore area of operations.

Further analysis revealed that the individual was a member of a ship’s crew whose vessel had entered the client’s
area only days earlier. Content posted publicly included visuals of ship dashboards, navigational instruments,
internal vessel spaces, and background features that enabled geolocation. Some posts unintentionally exposed
routes, operational movements, and proximity to sensitive assets.

Solutions

NSSG rapidly assessed the content as presenting a material operational security risk, particularly given the
clarity of location indicators visible in the media, and the multi-platform amplification. A priority alert was issued
to the client, detailing the findings, associated risks, and recommended immediate actions.

Following NSSG’s alert and advisor y support, the client acted swiftly to contain the risk. The timely identification
and escalation prevented fur ther exposure of sensitive operational information and reduced the risk of hostile
exploitation, reputational damage, or downstream security incidents.
